The Inuit Eskimo people of the Arctic use their keen observations of their wildlife surroundings to help choose which subjects to portray in their artwork. Pretty well all sorts of Arctic wildlife including seals, walruses, birds and whales are represented in Inuit Eskimo art sculptures. The most popular Arctic wildlife subject for both seasoned artists and fans of Inuit Eskimo art seems to be polar bears. For some reason, the polar bear has been chosen as the top animal to represent the Arctic north. Many Inuit Eskimo soapstone carvers strive to make polar bear sculptures but since this animal is not the easiest subject to carve, usually only experienced individuals can produce decent bears...

The Chukchi tribe of the great northern expanses in Siberia was the nomadic tribe which bred the Siberian Husky dogs. The tribe was well known for their remarkable aptitude for breeding these fine dogs as early as 3000 years ago. They were a people who lived inland and hunted along the coastal shores and they used the dogs for pulling back the game, many times over very long distances. Their dogs were bred purely and selectively and consequently the Siberian Husky of today is very directly descended from the original dogs belonging to the Chukchi tribe. The dog was little known in the United States or in Europe until the first "Alaska Sweepstakes" (later known as the Iditarod) was run and a team...
God and the Gays: Once Gay, Always Gay? (Part 3)
If we accept the Bible as the literal Word of God, and believe that God says what He means and means what He says, then we can't escape the fact that God expressly forbids any premarital or extramarital sex. The Bible doesn't fool around, it gets straight to the point. The Hebrew God isn't shy. He's also not ashamed of the anatomy He's equipped humans with. He pulls no punches and doesn't allow anyone to pervert His plans. Within the Instruction Manual that God gave to Israel (to give to the world), were explicit blueprints for building successful relationships between both God and man. That scriptural foundation assures us of strong and stable bonds, blessed by God (Ps. 127:1). Anything that...

Golden Retriever Puppies
The golden retriever is one of the finest dog breeds, and a great choice for a pet. Bringing home a cuddly golden retriever puppy requires as much care as it delights. It is best to buy a puppy from a specialist breeder. Specialist breeders conduct hereditary checks before breeding. They also provide Kennel Club registration, pedigree and diet sheets. The buyer can go back to the breeder for help.Usually, one has to order beforehand and wait for the puppy to be born. It is best to look at the mother to ensure the suitability. A puppy is ready to be brought home once it is 7-8 weeks old. The transition from the breeder to home is very difficult, and the puppy requires utmost care during this phase...

Faith, Courage, And Love And Joy Will Come
It was a medium day in Alaska. The sky was a bit overcast. The air was cool.Frantic activity was visible in all directions as the drivers prepared for what could arguably be called the toughest race in the world. The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog race is an annual event in Alaska. Mushers and dogs cover 1,100 miles. It can take them 8, 14, to 21 days to complete the distance.Teams must race through blizzards that cause whiteout conditions, subzero weather, and gale force winds. The trail runs through Alaska, from Anchorage in the southeast, up the Rainy Pass of the Alaska range, through the sparsely populated interior, along the shores of the Bering Sea, and finally reach Nome, in the northeast.Musher...

Sleigh Bells
The first thought that comes to mind when you hear the words "sleigh bells" may be that of Santa's reindeer plowing through the snow with their bells ringing a magical tune. The joy of Christmas or the holidays may slowly creep in.As children, we have always been amused by the sound of tiny bells ringing. Even babies are intrigued by the sound. For those in the Arctic region, the sound often means the return of a family member from a hunting trip or the delivery of goods expected for weeks or months.Sleigh bells have adorned horses and other farm animals since the ancient times. Whether they were meant to add to the festive mood of victory parades or to keep the farmer aware of his animal?s...

Dogs: Different Breeds
Although there are approximately 400 breeds of dogs recognized in the world, the American Kennel Club (AKC) only recognizes 146 breeds. These breeds are subdivided into seven groups: Sporting, Hound, Working, Herding, Non-Sporting, Terrier and Toy. The dogs in each group share similar characteristics but can be quite diverse and therefore each group has distinctive subgroups. The Sporting Group were bred to assist man in hunting, especially in retrieving birds from water or fields. These are very active dogs that are loyal and intelligent. They need lots of exercise and do not like to be left alone. Excellent family dogs who love interaction, these dogs can play fetch for hours and absolutely...
The Top Five Reasons Strategic Plans Fail
"Most great plans aren't. They are just nice, high-level ideas."That's how one of our survey respondents answered our question, "What are the top three obstacles that prevent great plans from reaching effective implementation?" Despite the universal chatter around the need to be "strategic", and the untold hours spent developing strategic plans, it appears that they don't work nearly often enough. And based on the spirited responses we got from the generous folks who answered our survey, it seems that many have been involved in a strategic plan that failed. Of course, we all know it's not YOUR fault! If it's any consolation, even the big boys can't seem to get it right. Many more than Ted Turner are...

Soft Plastics for Big Bass
The variety of soft plastic baits for bass is mind boggling. The choices available just in worms alone, are enough to cause confusion with the novice angler, and hours of debate among the more experienced. What size? color?, straight tail? curly tail?, salt or no salt?; what rig to use them on, drop-shot? Carolina rigged?, weightless?, when are the best times to use each one? Then add in the endless variety of lizards, grubs, jerkbaits, freakbaits, tubes, and creatures, and you end up with more questions than answers. In the following article I will try to list the most effective plastic baits and presentations that catch not only numbers, but big bass as well, whether it is in a lake, pond or river...

The pure bred dog, no manner the breed, is truly a beautiful animal to look upon. These are animals that have been refined, over the centuries, to reach their pure and unadulterated state as found today. The pure bred dogs have also been bred for temperament and bloodlines from the earliest of times. Yet there is another kind of dog that goes back in history even further than any pure bred dog! What is this unique breed? It's the Mixed Breed, or Mutt, as they are so often called. These dogs are of a very ancient mix of pedigrees that are not always of the best of mixes but they are most assuredly very unique animals. The temperament of these dogs is usually better and they tend not to have the...

Special Companions
The quality of the relationship between a pet owner and his/her pets is directly related to how much time is spent with the pet, training the pet and building trust. Well now, that's pretty true of human relationships also, isn't it? Unfortunately human relationships are not as simplistic and can be quite disappointing through no fault of our own. No, the relationship between pet owners and their pets is a world apart from human relationships. The only exception to that is that pets are often like children and I believe we view them as such because we are their caretakers, they give us love and affection in return for our caring for them. Unlike children though, our pets will never outgrow their...

Pinging Your Blog - The 5 "Ws" and the "H?"What does it mean to Blog and Ping? Sounds like a grammar school game, doesn't it. Well, after some research, I can now say that I have a fairly good understanding about not only what Pinging means, but also the When, Where, Why and How of Pinging your blog. Oh, and don't forget the Who!So, here is what I came up with:1. What is Pinging? In 2004, Priyah Shah, a partner in the search engine marketing firm, SEO & More, wrote an article about blogging that gave me some insight. She wrote, "There are a number of services designed specifically for tracking and connecting blogs. By sending a small ping to each service you let them know you've updated your blog so...
The Crosstrainer/Elliptical Machine is Useless...
If you are using an elliptical-type machine for intervals, then I believe that you are not getting the results you deserve. In my opinion, the elliptical machines are one of the least effective methods for losing fat - just as bad as spinning classes (which I'll cover in a future newsletter). Now you might know someone that is uses the elliptical all the time and is lean. But I will be the farm that they can thank their genetics, their strength training, and their nutrition for their results. I have yet to see someone transform their physique with the elliptical trainer. In fact, when someone comes to me with a failing program, I often see them using the elliptical for their interval training. And...
